Practical professional development, rooted in local history
-
Local History Hub supports teachers to develop their confidence, knowledge and practice in local history through a growing programme of free professional development.
Most of our professional learning happens through our network of Local History Hubs. These teacher-led local working parties bring schools, heritage organisations and communities together to share expertise, explore local sources, build relationships and develop meaningful local history provision.
Joining your Local History Hub is therefore the best way to access ongoing professional learning and support.
-
Alongside our local hub network, Local History Hub is developing a programme of free online and regional CPD sessions, often in partnership with heritage and specialist organisations.
These sessions respond to needs identified by teachers across the network and are designed to be practical, accessible and grounded in classroom practice.
Our developing programme explores areas including:
using local sources and archives
practical approaches to teaching local history
migration and diverse histories
identity, place and belonging
industrial and social history
working effectively with heritage organisations
Sessions are generally short, accessible and teacher-facing, with many taking place online and lasting around 45–60 minutes.

Alongside professional learning through our local hubs, Local History Hub is developing a growing programme of free online CPD for teachers and educators, working with heritage organisations and specialist partners.
