ABOUT US
At Local History Hub, we believe history should be lived, shared, and celebrated.
We’re a new, teacher-led initiative with national ambition—connecting schools, communities, and heritage sites to ensure local history becomes a vibrant, everyday part of education and community life.
Rooted in classrooms and shaped by the people who know their communities best, Local History Hub is building a grassroots network across the UK to make local history more accessible, relevant, and inspiring for everyone.
Our goal is simple: to help teachers lead the way in bringing local history to life.
We do this by:
Supporting teachers with resources, training, and curriculum-linked guidance
Strengthening partnerships between schools, historical sites, and local communities
Creating opportunities for pupils to explore history through real places and stories
Empowering local educators and community leads to run grassroots history initiatives
Organising national and local events—like Local History Day—that celebrate shared heritage
Each Local History Hub is shaped by the people it serves, helping to preserve local heritage, foster civic pride, and connect children and communities with the stories that shaped their surroundings.

Who We Work With
Founded in 2024, Local History Hub began with a simple idea: that teachers, schools, and communities are best placed to lead local history education.
We saw a gap between schools and heritage organisations, too often filled with goodwill but not enough structure. So we started building that bridge: one Hub, one school, one community at a time.
Our first pilot Hub launched in Cardiff in early 2025, and we have now expanded to Blackburn with Darwen as part of a five-Hub pilot programme. With capacity for three more Hubs this year, we’re actively seeking partners who want to bring this model to their area.
Now, in our pilot phase, Local History Hubs are launching across the UK—led by teachers, supported by partners, and fuelled by the belief that local stories matter.
Our Story
We’re at the beginning of an exciting journey—but the potential is already clear.
Teachers are leading change, embedding local history in the heart of school life
Communities are reconnecting with their stories, creating stronger ties across generations
Schools are building meaningful partnerships with local heritage sites
Children are developing a deeper sense of place, identity, and belonging
A national, teacher-led network is emerging — sharing ideas, amplifying voices, and shaping the future of local history education
As our pilot programme grows, so too will our impact. With the right support, Local History Hub can reach hundreds of schools, empower thousands of educators, and inspire the next generation to discover the history on their doorstep.

Local History Hub is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), reinvesting all income into our mission to support schools and communities through local history.
As a pre-revenue, early-stage organisation, we’re currently developing a sustainable model to support long-term impact across the UK. In this pilot phase, we rely on the generosity of funders, partners, and supporters who share our belief in the power of place-based education.
With your support, we can grow our network, launch new Hubs, and reach more children, schools, and communities with the stories that matter most.
