BECOME A NATIONAL HERITAGE ADVISOR

Help shape a national story of local heritage.

Local History Hub is a dynamic, teacher-led start-up working to build a UK-wide network of Local History Hubs—connecting schools, heritage organisations, and communities through place-based education.

As we move beyond our pilot phase, we’re looking for National Heritage Advisors across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland to help guide our next steps.

This is a voluntary, strategic role for experienced professionals in heritage, education, or outreach who want to stay connected to the sector and contribute meaningfully—with flexibility, purpose, and national impact.

Why This Role Matters

We believe the future of local history education should be led by those who understand its value—from the classroom to the archive.

As a National Heritage Advisor, you’ll play a vital part in shaping how Local History Hub grows, bringing insight, integrity, and regional understanding to our national strategy.

This is your opportunity to contribute to a grassroots movement with real momentum, supporting teacher-led change and helping to bridge the gap between schools and the heritage sector.

  • Shape national direction – Help us build a model that works across nations, communities, and sectors

  • Champion inclusive, place-based education – Use your voice and networks to raise awareness and support

  • Spot key opportunities – Share knowledge of policy, partnerships, and funding that align with our mission

  • Support regional growth – Where appropriate, collaborate with Regional Heritage Advisors to share learning and build connections

  • Lend strategic expertise – Offer high-level advice on national planning, messaging, and sector engagement

What You’ll Do

  • Mentor regional advisors or contribute to national planning, where appropriate

There are no set hours or formal expectations. We’ll shape the role around your interests and availability, making your contribution both purposeful and rewarding.
