Local History Hub and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission: Exploring New Ways to Support Schools
We’re pleased to share that Local History Hub is exploring ways to work with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) to support schools in engaging with local history, remembrance and place.
Both organisations share a commitment to helping teachers approach complex historical themes with confidence, using local sites and stories to support meaningful learning. CWGC’s work commemorating the men and women of the Commonwealth who died in the world wars offers powerful opportunities for pupils to explore history through their own communities.
Through this developing partnership, we’ll be looking at how Local History Hub’s teacher-led networks can connect with CWGC’s growing education offer, including classroom resources, cemetery guides and interpretative materials. Together, we’re interested in how schools can be supported to explore remembrance in ways that are locally grounded, curriculum-linked and age appropriate.
As this work develops, we’ll share relevant updates and opportunities with hubs and schools, helping teachers make the most of local CWGC heritage in their area. We’re looking forward to seeing how our shared aims can support thoughtful, engaging and inclusive approaches to teaching local and wartime history.
