May was one of the busiest months yet for Local History Hub, with new hubs launched in Essex, Rotherham, Surrey, and West Northumberland. The month also saw Local History Hub represented at the Historical Association Annual Conference and the announcement of a new CPD partnership with North East Museums. Together, these developments continue to strengthen our teacher-led network and support curriculum-linked local history that builds knowledge, identity, belonging, and a sense of place.

Local History Hub Mid Hampshire is a new teacher-led network connecting schools, museums, heritage organisations and local communities across Hampshire. The hub aims to support high-quality local history education, strengthen curriculum links, and help children develop a deeper understanding of place, identity and belonging.

Local History Hub West Northumberland is a teacher-led, grassroots network connecting schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to explore the area’s rich local history. The hub supports place-based learning, strengthens local partnerships, and helps children connect with the people, places, and stories that shape Northumberland.

Local History Hub Surrey is a teacher-led, grassroots network connecting schools, heritage organisations, and community partners across the county. The hub supports place-based learning, strengthens links between schools and heritage, and helps children explore the people, places, and stories that shape Surrey.

April was centred around the first nationwide celebration of Local History Day on 22nd April, with schools across the UK exploring the people, places, and stories that shape their communities. The month also saw Local History Hub join the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and continue preparations for further regional growth, including the announcement of a new hub for Essex.

Local History Hub Rotherham is a teacher-led, grassroots hub connecting schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to explore the borough’s rich industrial and community history. Led by Ian Blakesley, the hub supports place-based learning and helps children connect with the stories that shape where they live.

Local History Hub South Wiltshire brings together schools, heritage organisations and community partners to explore and share the area’s rich past, supporting meaningful, place-based learning and a stronger sense of belonging.

Today, schools across the UK are marking Local History Day, exploring the people, places and stories that shape their local area. From classrooms to heritage sites, pupils are connecting learning to the communities around them.

March saw continued growth for Local History Hub, with new hubs launched in Doncaster and South Wiltshire and the appointment of Hannah Salisbury as Regional Heritage Advisor for the East of England. As the network expands, schools across the country are now preparing for Local History Day on 22ndApril.

Local History Hub has joined the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), connecting us to a national network of over 17,000 organisations and strengthening our work through trusted guidance and sector expertise.

Local History Hub Huddersfield is a teacher-led, grassroots hub connecting schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to explore the town’s rich industrial and community heritage. Led by David Green, the hub supports place-based learning, strengthens local identity, and helps children connect with the stories that shape where they live.

We are delighted to welcome Hannah Salisbury as Regional Heritage Advisor for the East of England. A freelance heritage consultant with a background in archives and community engagement, Hannah specialises in uncovering the stories of real people and places to make learning about the past meaningful and relatable.
