A New Local History Hub for Redcar & Cleveland

We’re delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new Local History Hub for Redcar & Cleveland, one of five new hubs being established across the Tees Valley in partnership with Tees Valley Museums.

This launch marks another step in the expansion of our UK-wide network — a teacher-led, grassroots movement connecting classrooms with the people, places, and events that make local history meaningful. Each hub is built collaboratively by schools, heritage partners, and community organisations, with the aim of enriching the curriculum, strengthening community identity, and celebrating a shared sense of place.

Celebrating Redcar & Cleveland’s Industrial and Coastal Heritage

The Redcar & Cleveland Hub will bring together schools, museums, archives, and local history groups to explore the region’s remarkable industrial and coastal story — from ironstone mining and steelmaking to shipbuilding, seaside culture, and the proud communities that have shaped its identity.

Led by Jenny Wilkie, Creative Learning Support Officer for Tees Valley Museums, the hub will help children and teachers connect classroom learning to local stories and landscapes, inspiring curiosity and pride in place.

Get Involved

We’re now inviting teachers, schools, and heritage partners in Redcar & Cleveland to join the hub and collaborate on projects that bring local history to life.
