Local History Hub North Wiltshire

The North Wiltshire Local History Hub supports schools to develop high-quality, place-based history through collaboration between teachers and local heritage partners. As part of the teacher-led Local History Hub network, it aims to help children build a strong sense of belonging by exploring the history of the places they live.

The hub is led by an experienced primary history lead with a strong track record in curriculum design, assessment and developing engaging local history resources for young learners.

Meet the Team

  • Jen Bowditch

    SCHOOLS LEAD

    Jen is an experienced teacher with eighteen years in primary education, working in all age ranges from Early Years to Year 6. She has held a variety of leadership roles including Early Years Leader, Key Stage Two Leader and Deputy Head Teacher. Jen has been History Curriculum Leader since 2017 and is passionate about making the past exciting, meaningful and engaging for pupils. She has researched assessment processes to support knowledge retention and developed lessons and resources to bring local history to life for young children.

We’re continuing to grow the team supporting the North Wiltshire Local History Hub as it develops.

There are a range of ways to get involved, from joining as a member school or partner organisation to supporting hub activity as it develops.

Meet the Team

  • Abigail Webb

    SCHOOLS LEAD

    Abigail is a primary school teacher with seven years of experience across a range of schools and settings, including working closely with SEND pupils. Originally from Devon, she now lives in South Wiltshire, just ten minutes from Stonehenge, which provides a constant reminder of the rich history surrounding the area.

    She currently serves as History Subject Lead at her school and has had a passion for history from a young age. She is particularly interested in helping children develop curiosity about the past and in making history engaging and accessible for all learners.

  • Sophie Thomas

    COMMUNITY LEAD

    Sophie is a Learning and Participation Officer at English Heritage with her focus being at Stonehenge and Old Sarum in Wiltshire. She is incredibly passionate about engaging, teaching and learning about historic sites in your local area as well as understanding their national and international appeal. Sophie wants to inspire the future generations to understand as well as engage in their local heritage.
