New Appointment: Liberty Melly Joins Local History Hub as Director of Inclusive Heritage Practice
We’re proud to announce that Liberty Melly has joined the Local History Hub Strategic Board as our Director of Inclusive Heritage Practice.
Liberty is a nationally respected leader in the field of inclusive education and museum learning. Since 2017, she has served as Head of Learning at the Migration Museum, where she has built and expanded a national education programme that now supports thousands of students and hundreds of teachers each year. Under her leadership, the museum has worked in partnership with Multi Academy Trusts, exam boards, and education providers to deliver meaningful, migration-focused resources and training.
With a background in both the heritage sector and academic training in history and museum studies, Liberty brings a unique combination of practical experience, scholarly expertise, and a deep commitment to inclusive, place-based storytelling. Her work powerfully champions the role of migration in shaping Britain’s past and present.
In this new role, Liberty will play an important part in shaping the inclusive ethos of Local History Hub as we grow our network of school-based hubs across the UK. She will act as a strategic advisor on equity and representation, offering guidance on inclusive practice, contributing to national planning conversations, and helping ensure that our work remains rooted in stories that reflect the full diversity of local experience. As the project develops, Liberty will also support the design of CPD opportunities and may take on a wider role in partnership work around inclusive heritage education.
We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Liberty to the team and deeply value the expertise, insight and integrity she brings. Her appointment reflects our ongoing commitment to making Local History Hub a teacher-led, community-rooted, and genuinely inclusive national movement.
