A New Local History Hub for Coventry
We’re delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Coventry, the latest addition to our growing UK-wide network. Local History Hub is a teacher-led, grassroots movement connecting classrooms with the people, places, and histories that make local heritage meaningful. Each hub is built collaboratively by schools, heritage partners, and community organisations, with the shared aim of enriching the curriculum, strengthening community identity, and fostering a sense of place and belonging.
Exploring Coventry’s Rich and Diverse Heritage
The Coventry Hub will bring together schools, heritage sites, and community partners to explore the city’s rich and complex past. From medieval and industrial history to stories of migration, rebuilding, and innovation, the hub will support children and young people to understand how Coventry’s history continues to shape the city today.
By linking classroom learning with local stories, landmarks, and collections, the hub will help make local history accessible, relevant, and engaging for pupils across the city.
Meet the Community Lead
Local History Hub Coventry is led by Helen Kerry, a Learning and Participation Officer for English Heritage. Based at Kenilworth Castle, Helen supports English Heritage sites across the West Midlands, working closely with schools and communities to widen access to heritage and learning opportunities.
A former Design and Technology teacher in a large inner-city academy, Helen brings a strong understanding of the school context. She has a particular interest in developing cultural capital and increasing opportunities for young people, ensuring that all pupils can see themselves reflected in the stories of the places where they live.
Helen’s combined experience in education and heritage places her at the heart of this new hub, supporting meaningful partnerships between schools and heritage organisations across Coventry.
