A New Local History Hub for North Tyneside

We’re delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new Local History Hub for North Tyneside, supported by North East Museums. This marks an important step in the continued growth of our UK-wide network – a teacher-led, grassroots movement connecting classrooms with the people, places, and histories that make local heritage meaningful. Each hub is built collaboratively by schools, heritage partners, and community organisations, with the aim of enriching the curriculum, strengthening community identity, and celebrating a shared sense of belonging.

Exploring North Tyneside’s Coastal, Industrial, and Community Heritage

The North Tyneside Hub will bring together schools, museums, archives, and community groups to explore the area’s rich and varied past — from its coastal and maritime history to its industrial heritage, shipbuilding traditions, and the diverse stories of the communities who have shaped the borough over time.

Led by Lucy, an experienced primary History Coordinator with nearly fourteen years in the role, the North Tyneside Hub will support teachers and pupils to connect learning with local stories, landmarks, and collections. Lucy’s long-standing relationships with heritage sites and her commitment to strengthening the place of local history in the curriculum place her at the heart of this exciting new chapter for North Tyneside.

Get Involved

We’re now inviting teachers, schools, and heritage organisations across North Tyneside to join the hub and collaborate on projects that bring local history to life.

Together, we’re helping children and communities across North Tyneside connect with the stories that shape where they live.
