A New Local History Hub for Huddersfield
We’re delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Huddersfield, the latest addition to our growing UK-wide network. Local History Hub is a teacher-led, grassroots movement that brings together schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to make local history meaningful and accessible for children and young people. Each hub is built collaboratively, with the shared aim of enriching curriculum learning, strengthening local identity, and fostering a sense of place and belonging.
Exploring Huddersfield’s Industrial and Community Heritage
Local History Hub Huddersfield will support schools and communities to explore the town’s rich industrial past and the stories of the people and places that have shaped it. From transport and manufacturing to everyday working lives, the hub will help pupils understand how Huddersfield’s history has influenced the town they know today.
Through curriculum support, collaborative projects, and local storytelling, the hub will make it easier for schools and heritage partners to work together and celebrate Huddersfield’s distinctive heritage in ways that feel relevant and engaging for learners.
Meet the Community Lead
Local History Hub Huddersfield is led by David Green, a PhD student at Nottingham Trent University’s School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, where he specialises in transport and industrial heritage.
David brings over 27 years’ experience in education, including five years teaching in secondary schools and more than two decades lecturing in post-16 and adult education. His background combines deep subject knowledge with a strong commitment to lifelong learning.
A proud Northerner with a passion for connecting people to place, David leads community engagement for the Huddersfield Hub. He is particularly interested in using heritage to strengthen local identity and help communities better understand and value Huddersfield’s industrial story.
