A New Local History Hub for Doncaster

We’re delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Doncaster, the latest addition to our growing UK-wide network. Local History Hub is a teacher-led, grassroots movement that brings together schools, heritage organisations and community partners to make local history meaningful and accessible for children and young people. Each hub is built collaboratively, with the shared aim of enriching curriculum learning, strengthening local identity and fostering a sense of place and belonging.

Exploring Doncaster’s Industrial and Community Heritage

Local History Hub Doncaster will support schools and communities to explore the borough’s rich industrial past and the stories of the people and places that have shaped it. From mining and railways to migration and everyday life, the hub will help pupils understand how Doncaster’s history continues to influence the area today.

Through curriculum support, collaborative projects and local storytelling, the hub will make it easier for schools and heritage partners to work together and celebrate Doncaster’s heritage in ways that feel relevant and engaging for learners.

Meet the Community Lead

Local History Hub Doncaster is led by Meg Barclay, Learning and Community Development Manager at Heritage Doncaster, part of City of Doncaster Council.

Meg has worked in the museums and heritage sector for over 11 years, following a history degree (MA Cantab) and a Norfolk Museum Service traineeship specialising in learning and engagement. She has held roles across public museums, private heritage organisations, university museums and York Archaeology.

Her work includes delivering immersive, character-based workshops for all key stages, with a strong focus on using artefacts and storytelling to bring history to life. Meg is passionate about creating high-quality learning opportunities that help children connect with the history of the places they live.
