A New Local History Hub for Rotherham (Copy)

We’re delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Surrey, the latest addition to our growing UK-wide network. Local History Hub is a teacher-led, grassroots movement that brings together schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to make local history meaningful and accessible for children and young people. Each hub is built collaboratively, with the shared aim of enriching curriculum learning, strengthening local identity, and fostering a sense of place and belonging.

Exploring Surrey’s Local Stories and Heritage

Local History Hub Surrey will support schools and communities to explore the county’s rich and varied history, from rural villages and market towns to industrial heritage, migration, landscape, and everyday life. The hub aims to help pupils understand how the past continues to shape the places where they live, encouraging curiosity and a stronger connection to local communities.

At this stage, the Surrey hub is focused on building relationships, signposting good local practice, and strengthening connections between schools and heritage organisations across the county. Over time, the hub aims to support growing collaboration and practical curriculum-linked opportunities for schools.

Connecting Schools and Heritage Across Surrey

The Surrey hub is supported by colleagues working across Surrey’s museums and heritage sector, helping schools access local collections, archives, workshops, and expertise.

This includes links with initiatives such as Learning On My Doorstep and the Heritage Schools programme delivered with Historic England, alongside a growing range of curriculum resources and opportunities for schools to engage with Surrey’s local heritage.

Get Involved

We’re now inviting teachers, schools, heritage organisations, and community groups across Surrey to get involved as the hub develops.
