A New Local History Hub for Wiltshire
We’re delighted to announce that a brand-new Local History Hub is being established in Wiltshire, creating exciting new opportunities for schools, heritage organisations, and community groups to come together and explore the stories that shape the county.
Supported by Wiltshire Council, the new hub will form part of our growing UK-wide network — a teacher-led, grassroots movement connecting classrooms with the people, places, and events that make local history meaningful. Each hub is built collaboratively by schools, heritage partners, and community organisations, with the aim of enriching the curriculum, strengthening community identity, and celebrating a shared sense of place.
Building Partnerships Across Wiltshire
The Wiltshire Hub will bring together schools, museums, archives, and local history groups from across the county to explore the rich and diverse heritage of the region — from prehistoric landscapes and medieval towns to stories of innovation, migration, and community life.
Working closely with Wiltshire Council, we’re now laying the foundations for a county-wide partnership that will help children learn about the history on their doorstep and develop a deeper understanding of where they live.
Seeking Volunteer Hub Leads
To help shape the hub’s development and coordinate activity locally, we’re now seeking two volunteer Hub Leads:
A Schools Hub Lead to support teachers, share good practice, and lead work on curriculum and classroom projects.
A Community Hub Lead to build partnerships with heritage organisations, local groups, and cultural networks.
These are flexible, voluntary roles (around 2–3 hours per month) and an exciting opportunity for anyone passionate about place-based education and local heritage.
Get Involved
Whether you’re a teacher, part of a local history society, or involved in a museum, archive, or community project, we’d love you to be part of this new chapter for Wiltshire.
