About Local History Hub
Local History Hub is a teacher-led, national initiative helping communities explore, share, and celebrate the histories that matter most to them. We work with schools, heritage organisations, and individuals to connect learning with place—and bring local stories into classrooms.
In 2025–26, we’re launching five pilot Hubs across the UK. One of our newest is in Blackburn with Darwen, where we’re supporting a vibrant network of schools, museums and community partners. As this work develops, we’re looking for dedicated volunteers to help guide and shape our local presence across the North West.
The Role
We’re seeking a passionate, knowledgeable heritage or education professional to join us as Regional Heritage Advisor for North West England. This honorary role is ideal for someone who knows and loves the region, wants to stay engaged in the sector, and is keen to support meaningful, community-rooted work.
You’ll work closely with our National Heritage Advisor for England to help identify and nurture opportunities across the region.
Over the next 12 months, key focuses will include:
Supporting the continued development of our Blackburn with Darwen Hub
Helping shape opportunities for new Hubs across North West England
As a Regional Advisor, you’ll act as a local connector, trusted voice, and sector advocate—helping ensure Local History Hub’s work is responsive, inclusive, and rooted in place.
What You’ll Do
Offer insight into the heritage, education and community landscape in the North West
Help connect Local History Hub with relevant organisations, schools and networks
Support the Blackburn with Darwen Hub by advising on local opportunities and relationships
Identify areas within the region where new Hubs could be established
Share relevant updates on policy, funding or events related to place-based learning
Contribute (light-touch) to regional planning or communications as needed
What You’ll Gain
A regional voice in shaping how local history is explored and celebrated
Flexible, purposeful engagement with no fixed hours or governance duties
Recognition across our website and communications
Direct links to a growing network of teachers and heritage professionals
The chance to support a grassroots education initiative from the ground up
