Derby Joins the Network: Launching Our Fifth and Final Pilot Hub for 2025–26
We’re excited to announce the launch of Local History Hub: Derby—our fifth and final pilot hub for the 2025–26 academic year!
This new hub marks a major milestone in our teacher-led, UK-wide pilot and will support primary schools across Derby to explore the rich and layered histories of their local area.
Already, we’re hearing from schools, educators, and community leaders who are eager to get involved. From the city’s industrial heritage and railway innovation to its stories of protest, migration, and creativity, Derby is bursting with opportunities for place-based learning that reflects the lives and identities of its communities.
In the weeks ahead, we’ll begin working with schools to shape the hub’s structure and connect with heritage partners across the city—including museums, archives, independent historians, and community groups.
Like all our Local History Hubs, this one is built on collaboration. Our goal is to bring together educators and heritage professionals to co-create meaningful learning experiences that inspire young people and strengthen local connections.
This is also the final piece of the puzzle for our 2025–26 pilot, with Derby joining established hubs in Blackburn with Darwen, Cardiff, Cheshire West & Chester, and Liverpool. Looking ahead, we’ll begin planning our next wave—growing to 25 hubs across the UK by the following academic year.
There will be plenty of ways to get involved, and we’ll be sharing updates, stories, and opportunities over the coming months.
If you’re a school, teacher, or heritage organisation based in Derby and would like to learn more, please get in touch at enquiries@localhistoryhub.org.uk.
We’d love to hear from you.
