A New Local History Hub for Grantham & South West Lincolnshire
We're delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Grantham & South West Lincolnshire, the latest addition to our growing network of teacher-led local history partnerships across England and Wales.
Local History Hub is a grassroots initiative that brings together schools, heritage organisations, museums, archives, and local communities to strengthen local history education. Through practical collaboration, hubs help children develop a deeper understanding of place, identity, and belonging while supporting schools to deliver engaging, curriculum-linked local history.
Exploring the Stories of Grantham & South West Lincolnshire
Grantham and South West Lincolnshire have a rich and varied history, shaped by market towns, rural communities, agriculture, transport, industry, and nationally significant figures and events.
Local History Hub Grantham & South West Lincolnshire will help schools connect with the stories, people, places, and landscapes that have shaped the area over time. By exploring local history, children can better understand how national and global events have influenced their own communities and develop a stronger sense of connection to where they live.
The hub aims to support schools in making meaningful use of local heritage, helping pupils build historical knowledge, develop enquiry skills, and foster a greater sense of place and belonging.
Connecting Schools and Heritage Organisations
The hub is supported by Claire Mainwaring, who will serve as Schools Hub Lead.
Working alongside local schools, heritage organisations, museums, archives, libraries and community groups, Claire will help develop the hub and strengthen connections across the region.
We are currently seeking a volunteer Community Hub Lead to work alongside Claire and help build relationships with heritage organisations, museums, archives and community partners across Grantham and South West Lincolnshire.
As the hub develops, it will provide opportunities to share good practice, signpost local history resources, promote local events and projects, and encourage stronger partnerships between education and heritage sectors.
