A New Local History Hub for Sheffield

We're delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Sheffield, the latest addition to our growing network of teacher-led local history partnerships across England and Wales.

Local History Hub is a grassroots initiative that brings together schools, heritage organisations, museums, archives and local communities to strengthen local history education. Through practical collaboration, hubs help children develop a deeper understanding of place, identity and belonging while supporting schools to deliver engaging, curriculum-linked local history.

Exploring Sheffield's Stories

Sheffield has a rich and distinctive history, shaped by industry, innovation, migration, creativity and strong local communities. From its internationally recognised steel heritage to its parks, neighbourhoods and cultural organisations, the city offers countless opportunities for children to explore the stories that have shaped the place they call home.

Local History Hub Sheffield will support schools in connecting with these stories, helping pupils understand how local history reflects wider national and global events while developing a stronger sense of place and belonging.

Connecting Schools and Heritage Across Sheffield

The hub is supported by Laura Travis, Manager of Create Sheffield, who will serve as Community Hub Lead.

Laura brings extensive experience of working across Sheffield's cultural sector, having spent 15 years at Sheffield Museums supporting artists, organisations and practitioners. During this time, she saw first-hand the positive impact that culture can have on the wellbeing and aspirations of children and young people.

Through her role at Create Sheffield, Laura now works to connect the city's creative sectors, helping build partnerships that tackle inequalities and create more arts and cultural opportunities for everyone.

Working alongside local schools, museums, archives, libraries and heritage organisations, Laura will help strengthen connections across Sheffield and support new opportunities for collaboration between education and the cultural sector.
