A New Local History Hub for Stroud

We’re delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Stroud, the latest addition to our growing UK-wide network. Local History Hub is a teacher-led, grassroots movement that brings together schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to make local history meaningful and accessible for children and young people. Each hub is built collaboratively, with the shared aim of enriching curriculum learning, strengthening local identity, and fostering a sense of place and belonging.

Exploring Stroud’s Local Stories

Local History Hub Stroud will support schools and communities to explore the district’s rich and varied history, from its industrial heritage and textile mills to its market towns, rural communities, landscapes, and the people who have shaped the area over time. The hub will help pupils understand how the past continues to influence the places where they live, encouraging curiosity and a stronger connection to their local community.

Through curriculum support, collaborative projects, and local storytelling, the hub will make it easier for schools and heritage partners to work together and bring Stroud’s history to life in engaging, practical ways.

Meet the Community Lead

The Stroud hub is being supported by Tony Chalk, Skills and Learning Coordinator at Stroud District Council.

Tony has extensive experience of working with schools and communities across the district and is passionate about helping young people engage with their local heritage through meaningful, place-based learning. The hub is currently working with local schools to establish a Schools Lead, with the first hub meeting planned for the new academic year.

Get Involved

We’re now inviting teachers, schools, heritage organisations, museums, archives, and community groups across Stroud to get involved as the hub develops.

If you’d like to help shape the hub, contribute to future projects, or simply stay informed as plans progress, please complete our short Expression of Interest form.

If you're based elsewhere in Gloucestershire and your area is not currently covered by the Stroud hub, you're also very welcome to complete the Gloucestershire Expression of Interest form. This will help us understand interest across the county and support future hub development.

Alternatively, you can contact us directly at enquiries@localhistoryhub.org.uk.

Together, we’re helping children and communities across Stroud - and the wider Gloucestershire area - connect with the stories that shape where they live.
