A New Local History Hub for Wirral

We’re delighted to announce the launch of Local History Hub Wirral, the latest addition to our growing UK-wide network. Local History Hub is a teacher-led, grassroots movement that brings together schools, heritage organisations, and community partners to make local history meaningful and accessible for children and young people. Each hub is built collaboratively, with the shared aim of enriching curriculum learning, strengthening local identity, and fostering a sense of place and belonging.

Exploring Wirral’s Rich Heritage

Local History Hub Wirral will support schools and communities to explore the peninsula’s rich and varied history, from its maritime heritage and industrial past to its villages, parks, coastlines, and the people who have shaped the area over time. The hub will help pupils understand how the past continues to influence the places where they live, encouraging curiosity and a stronger connection to their local community.

Through curriculum support, collaborative projects, and local storytelling, the hub will make it easier for schools and heritage partners to work together and bring Wirral’s history to life in engaging, practical ways.

Meet the Schools Lead

The Wirral hub is led by Lindsey Marshall, who has over 15 years' teaching experience and is History Lead at New Brighton Primary School.

Lindsey is passionate about bringing history to life in the classroom, particularly the fascinating stories and heritage of the Wirral. Through the Local History Hub, she hopes to support teachers with practical ideas and resources that help children discover and appreciate the unique history of the area.

We are also currently looking for a Community Lead to work alongside Lindsey and help strengthen links between schools and local heritage organisations.

Get Involved

We’re now inviting teachers, schools, heritage organisations, museums, archives, and community groups across the Wirral to get involved as the hub develops.

If you’d like to help shape the hub, contribute to future projects, or simply stay informed as plans progress, please complete our short Expression of Interest form.

Alternatively, you can contact us directly at enquiries@localhistoryhub.org.uk.

Together, we’re helping children and communities across the Wirral connect with the stories that shape where they live.
