Welcoming Marie Woods: National Heritage Advisor for England

We’re proud to announce that Marie Woods has joined Local History Hub as our new National Heritage Advisor for England.

Based in North Yorkshire, Marie is an archaeologist and heritage professional with over a decade of experience across museum management, archaeological consultancy, heritage learning, and community-led projects. Her work is driven by a clear mission: to make the past accessible, engaging, and relevant to everyone.

In this honorary role, Marie will play a vital part in shaping our national strategy as Local History Hub continues to grow. Our National Heritage Advisors are experienced sector leaders who champion inclusive, place-based education and support our UK-wide work through strategic insight, visibility, and connection.

Marie’s background aligns closely with our values. She brings a rich mix of sector expertise and public engagement experience, and her thoughtful, hands-on approach to heritage empowers communities to connect with the stories that shape their identity.

As National Heritage Advisor, Marie will support Local History Hub by:

  • Offering strategic advice on national opportunities, trends, and policy

  • Acting as a visible champion for inclusive local history education

  • Helping shape our national voice across the heritage and education sectors

  • Connecting us with potential collaborators, funders, and advocates

  • Supporting regional advisors and leads where interests align

Like all our Advisors, Marie is part of a growing UK-wide network helping to build a teacher-led, community-rooted movement grounded in local pride and inclusive storytelling.
