We’re delighted to welcome Anna Hartley as Regional Heritage Advisor for the East Midlands. As Learning Manager at Heritage Lincolnshire and a former secondary history teacher, Anna brings extensive experience in heritage education, curriculum development and regional project work. She is committed to helping young people access and engage with the local stories and places that shape their communities.
Welcoming Alys Rouncefield: Regional Heritage Advisor for North West England
We’re delighted to welcome Alys Rouncefield as Regional Heritage Advisor for North West England. Alys is an Outreach and Engagement Officer at Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery and Community Lead for our Blackburn with Darwen hub. She brings a passion for place-based learning, strong partnerships with schools and communities, and a deep commitment to helping people connect with the stories that make them proud of where they live.
Welcoming Glenn Carter: National Education Advisor
We’re thrilled to welcome Glenn Carter as National Education Advisor for Local History Hub. A primary teacher, Historical Association Fellow, and creator of History Rocks, Glenn brings exceptional expertise in primary history education. Working alongside National Heritage Advisor Marie Woods, he’ll help shape our national strategy, connecting schools, museums, and communities through inclusive, place-based learning rooted in local stories.
Welcoming Jenny Wilkie: Regional Heritage Advisor for North East England
We’re delighted to announce that Jenny Wilkie has joined Local History Hub as our new Regional Heritage Advisor for North East England. With over 20 years’ experience in museum education and heritage learning, Jenny will help strengthen partnerships across the region, supporting inclusive, place-based education that celebrates local stories and identity.
October Round-Up: Building Momentum and Expanding Connections
October has been a month of growth and connection for Local History Hub, with three new hubs launching in Lincolnshire, Leicester, and Wiltshire, a major new partnership with Historic England’s Heritage Schools Programme, and the appointment of leading history educator Michael Maddison as Non-Executive Director. Together, these developments mark a significant step forward for our teacher-led movement — building partnerships, empowering educators, and helping more communities connect with the stories that matter most.
September Round-Up: Growing Partnerships and Local Roots
September has been a month of fresh energy and exciting progress for Local History Hub. We’ve deepened our national presence by joining GEM, partnering with Kimyo and A Day of Welcome, and beginning a new collaboration with English Heritage. We also welcomed Saira MacNicol as a Non-Executive Director and Charlotte Barry as Regional Heritage Advisor for South Wales — two appointments that will strengthen our work at every level.
On the ground, our first hub meetings in Cardiff and Blackburn with Darwen brought schools, heritage partners, and community organisations together to set shared priorities for the year ahead. We also held our first information sessions, introducing Local History Hub to new local authorities and academy trusts.
With stronger partnerships, new expertise, and our first collaborative plans taking shape, September has been a pivotal step towards building a national movement rooted in local stories.

We’re thrilled to welcome Charlotte Barry to Local History Hub. As Education and Interpretation Officer at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery and a GEM Cymru Rep, Charlotte brings a passion for lifelong learning, heritage engagement, and community connections. She’ll be helping us grow our work across South Wales—please join us in giving her a warm welcome!

We’re delighted to welcome heritage professional and archaeologist Marie Woods to the Local History Hub team as our new National Heritage Advisor for England. Based in North Yorkshire, Marie brings over a decade of experience in museum management, archaeological consultancy, and community-led heritage. In this honorary role, she’ll help guide our national strategy, champion inclusive local history education, and support our growing advisor network across the UK.
