Welcoming Glenn Carter: National Education Advisor

We’re delighted to announce that Glenn Carter has joined Local History Hub as our new National Education Advisor.

Glenn is a primary teacher from the North East of England and a lifelong history lead. He runs History Rocks, a popular site for primary history, and serves as an Associate Specialist Adviser for Primary History with Education Durham. He is also a Fellow of the Historical Association and sits on the HA’s Primary Committee. Over his career he has worked with schools, trusts and trainee teachers across the UK and beyond, frequently partnering with educational publishers and creators to design and deliver impactful CPD.

Glenn brings a teacher’s eye for practical curriculum design and classroom realities. His expertise will help us strengthen our teacher-led approach and ensure that Local History Hub resources and programmes are tightly aligned with what schools need.

As National Education Advisor, Glenn will:

  • Shape Local History Hub’s education strategy and curriculum guidance for primary schools

  • Support the development of a UK-wide network of Regional Education Advisors

  • Champion inclusive, place-based history that builds knowledge of local stories and national context

  • Advise on CPD offers for schools, trusts and ITE providers

  • Collaborate with our hubs to connect teachers with meaningful local opportunities

Glenn will work closely with our National Heritage Advisor, Marie Woods, to bring heritage and education together at a national level, ensuring that museum collections, archives and community histories translate into rich, curriculum-linked learning for every child.

This is a voluntary role as we continue our early-stage, teacher-led pilot. We’re beginning a new round of grant applications, and we’re excited about the momentum building across our hubs.

💬 Want to get involved as a Regional Education Advisor?
We’re keen to hear from experienced teachers and subject leads who share our commitment to local history and community engagement. If you’d like to contribute your insight and help shape this national movement rooted in local stories, contact us at enquiries@localhistoryhub.org.uk.

Please join us in welcoming Glenn Carter to Local History Hub. His experience, energy and deep commitment to primary history will be invaluable as we grow our UK-wide network and support schools to tell big stories of local pride.
