We’re delighted to announce that Jenny Wilkie has joined Local History Hub as our new Regional Heritage Advisor for North East England.

We’re delighted to announce that Jenny Wilkie has joined Local History Hub as our new Regional Heritage Advisor for North East England.

Jenny has been instrumental in establishing Local History Hub’s presence across the Tees Valley, leading the creation of five new hubs in Darlington, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Hartlepool, and Stockton-on-Tees through her work with Tees Valley Museums. Her energy, expertise, and deep commitment to local learning have made a lasting impact on schools and heritage partners across the region.

A Creative Learning Support Officer for Tees Valley Museums, Jenny is a qualified teacher with over 20 years of experience in the heritage sector. Her career began in landscape heritage and archaeology at Summerhill in Hartlepool before moving into museum education, including her role as Education Officer at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. Today, she supports learning teams across seven museum sites to deliver inspiring, curriculum-linked learning both in museums and in classrooms.

Jenny believes passionately in the power of local heritage to inspire pride, curiosity, and belonging. Her work focuses on making museum collections and community stories meaningful to every child, helping them understand and celebrate where they live.

As Regional Heritage Advisor, Jenny will help guide Local History Hub’s growth in the North East by:

  • Strengthening partnerships between schools, museums, and archives across the region

  • Supporting the development of new Local History Hubs and school engagement initiatives

  • Championing inclusive, place-based education rooted in the North East’s diverse heritage

  • Providing regional insight and strategic guidance as part of our national advisory network

This voluntary role is designed for heritage professionals who want to stay connected to education and engagement at a strategic level. Like all our Advisors, Jenny is part of a growing UK-wide team helping to shape a national movement rooted in local stories.
